In the past two years, CareMalta embarked on an intensive training programme for its employees in an area of an ever-growing importance in the elderly sector. Perhaps the most ambitious of this programme was an awareness course in Dementia aimed at all CareMalta employees whose work is not related to nursing or care. The aim of this course was to make these employees aware of how to deal with residents suffering from this condition. Those who attended these courses, held in all our facilities, showed keen interest in the subject sharing their own everyday experiences in dealing with such situations.
For the nursing and care staff, CareMalta launched or is in the process of launching more intensive programmes in this matter. A number of carers attended a Stirling University certified course held in various facilities. These courses were conducted by a senior member of staff who was purposely trained in the subject at Stirling University in Scotland. In October 2011, CareMalta City & Guilds Centre plans to start a new Level 3 course in Dementia Awareness and Care which will further develop its employees’ skills in the subject. This course will also be open to external students who may also be our company’s prospective care workers.
