Cospicua
Home is a one hundred and thirty bed residential complex
for the elderly. It is the first one of its sort for Malta,
because the furnishings, commodities and interiors resemble
those of hotels rather than those of homes for the elderly.
This residential home was built by the Maltese Central
Government and subcontracted to CareMalta for the management
and running of the operations.
The Cospicua Home was built beside and 18th century orphanage.
The spectacular features of this 18th century building
were all restored and the new section was built with the
concept of the fusion of the two buildings.
"Conservatorio
San Giuseppe", as this building was known, was erected
in the late 18th century by bishop Vincenzo Labini and
a priest with the name of Salvatore Lanzon, and it was
used as an orphanage for girls. A small chapel dedicated
to St. Joseph used to make part of this conservatory.
During the construction of the residential complex this
chapel was restored and now it is part of the complex
and is being used by the residents.
This
complex comprises twenty-eight single rooms, forty - eight
double sharing rooms and two triple bedded rooms, having
a total capacity of one hundred and thirty. All rooms
are fully air conditioned, with en suite bathrooms and
kitchenette. Each room has the facility of a TV socket.
All amenities are purposely designed for the elderly.
The residents have the facility of a remote controlled
nurse call system, with pull chords in the
showers.
The professionalism and expertise of CareMalta,
together with the exceptional environment of the Cospicua
Home, the residents can enjoy an independent and private
lifestyle, very similar to the one they enjoyed in their
own homes. The home was officially inaugurated on the
18th December 1999.
