Officially opened in 1910, Zammit Clapp has also been referred to as the ‘Blue Sisters’, a name remarking the operators of the hospital at that time. In 1979 the hospital was closed however, it was re-opened in 1991 as a hospital dedicated to the needs of the elderly whereby it closed again shortly after the opening of Mater Dei Hospital.  In 2012 Zammit Clapp Hospital re-opened as a residential nursing facility for the elderly.

CareMalta has been trusted to operate Zammit Clapp Hospital Residential Home under the Public Private Partnership scheme of which CareMalta is responsible for the overall services offered by the facility.
