A Maltese Literature Night aimed at promoting literature and reading amongst older generations was organised at Casa Arkati, one of the care homes managed by CareMalta Group, on Thursday 2nd June.
The literary event featured reading excerpts from various Maltese authors, namely, Anton Buttigieg, Mario Azzopardi, Oliver Friggieri, Ġuże’ Ellul Mercer, Professor Victor Mallia Milanes, and Pierre J. Mejlak.
Apart from promoting Maltese literature and authors, the aim of the event was also to bear witness to Maltese history and traditions which can be explained in various styles of writing and to reach various educational goals. Literature allows us to learn about life from the ones who walked before us.
The Minister for Senior Citizens and Active Ageing Joe Etienne Abela, Shadow Minister for the Elderly, Paula Mifsud Bonnici, and Malta Libraries Director, Joanne Sciberras were present for the event together with the Chairperson for Vassallo Group Malta, Natalie Briffa Farrugia, Care Malta Group Chief Executive, James Sciriha and Chief Operations Officer of CareMalta, Noel Borg.
The event was organised in collaboration with Malta Libraries, Venus Harp Trio, and Stephanie Cilia who was the presenter for the evening.
The literature was performed by Margaret Vella, Dianne Giordmaina, Professor Victor Mallia Milanes, and Josephine Zammit whilst great, professional music was delivered by The Venus Harp Trio, consisting of a harp, violin, and cello, with their versatility they managed to explore various genres of music during the evening from classical to modern music.
As part of the same event, to promote Maltese Literature, a library was inaugurated at Casa Arkati in Mosta. “Reading allows seniors to stay mentally active and productive and creating effective ways to improve the quality of life of our residents is one of our targets as CareMalta Group”, stated Natalie Briffa Farrugia, Chairperson of Vassallo Group Malta, during the library launch.
